Marriage Advice

ImageWhat’s your favorite marriage advice, tips, or all-around good things to know?

Things like:

Don’t let the sun go down on your anger

Pay your bills on time

Be on the “same team” when disciplining your kids

You can never say “I love you” enough…

What other advice would you share with me?

I’m all ears.

I was a pastor who still knows a personal connection with God and I like to share thoughts and insights to make God's Kingdom a little more tangibly, while sharing conversations on leadership insights. Now I'm a funeral director, still seeking to share about Jesus.

  1. Date often. It’s important to get away from the house and kids. Dates don’t have to cost anything, my husband and I love to go for a walk. Our years of dating paid big dividends during Blake’s cancer treatment during the past 18 months. Dates helped us stick together— I think they help you stay connected.

  2. Three checking accounts. His, hers, and ours. We both get an “allowance” each month. The same amount for both. From those accounts we buy our clothes and our toys and our individual entertainment…lunch with the girls, etc. We each have total control over our allowance money. Joint account decisions are made together. We’ve done this since we were married 11 years ago, and not once have we fought about money, particularly if I happen to spy a smashing pair of boots on sale at Nordy’s !!!

  3. Laugh together – a lot! Always look for the humorous in situations. It lightens the mood, changes the perspective and makes life more fun! (32 years and counting, married to a husband with a good sense of humor!)
