His encounter in 2 Kings 3:9-20 is as real today as it was then. We run out of water, and we pray to God so that God might “fix it”, but we seldom participate in the work it takes to have a miracle happen. Think of the miracles of Jesus. People were asked to participate in the miracle; “pick up your mat”, “stretch out your hand”, “go wash in the pool”… Jesus asks us to participate in the miracles that God is performing through us today also.
He was anointed by Elijah to follow God. Elisha’s act of faith was made clear in his action of burning his plows and cooking the cows. How are you going to respond to God’s clear calling in your life to serve the Lord?
The point of the encounter is to “stop wavering and make a decision of which God to follow”. What are the false gods in your life that you’ve given allegiance to? Where do you find your faith wavering? Who is getting all your worship? Do you worship the God of heaven, or the gods of worry, money, power, pleasure and sex? It’s time to stop wavering and worship Jesus.
Some people believe that writing a simple check to the church is enough. Some think just giving a little bit of charity is enough. Jesus taught us in John 13:3-17 that to give is to serve one another. Listen to how the Gospel of John teaches us to live the blessed life through serving others.
How do we get out of feeling inadequate? Sometimes we don’t think we’re good enough, but our Father God tells us that in Christ, we are good, now. We can do all things in Christ who gives us strength. Where do you feel inadequate, and what do you need to do to sense God’s love for you again?
