How We Overcome Apathy

Pastor Reid Olson of Crossroads Church of Greeley teaches on the evils of apathy, within each of us.

Screen Shot 2019-05-07 at 6.14.16 PM

Sometimes we get caught up thinking that our little bit of faith is not enough to change the world. Sometime we think we need to solve EVERYTHING, so we miss out on being a solution in one small thing. We can even post about things we hear around the world, and yet not even be involved in helping our neighbor. How would you have heard the parable of the Good Samaritan back in the day when Jesus told this lawyer how to love his neighbor? What kind of response does it call out in you? Are you an apathetic person regarding your faith?

Permission to Say “NO”

Pastor Reid Olson of Crossroads Church of Greeley teaches on the Sabbath Principle from Exodus 20.

Screen Shot 2019-04-09 at 3.10.13 PMHave you ever thought of the 10 Commandments as a gift? God wanted the former 400 years of slavery in Egypt to be removed from His peoples’ thinking, so God gave them a Sabbath Principle. Remember the Sabbath day, and make it holy. How do you remember the Sabbath day in your life? And, how do you make it holy unto God? Do you have sabbath practices that break your chains of slavery? What are you enslaved to in your life? Cookies, caffeine, sugar, shopping, entertainment and even working can become a slave driver in our lives, I know that even ministry (heaven forbid) can become an idol for me. This week we want you to learn to rest, and trust that the God who made you doesn’t make mistakes, and He wants you to rest in Jesus and trust that the world will continue to spin without you holding the steering wheel. Learn to take a weekly sabbath to rest in God’s grace.

Your “ONE WORD” for 2019

Pastor Reid Olson of Crossroads Greeley teaches on your “ONE WORD” for 2019.

one.word.for.year

Have you ever concentrated on one word for the day, or for a week, or month, or even a year? We are practicing our one word for a year as a church together. God may be speaking one thing to you for the year, and He might be wanting you to focus on a single attribute of His, or a single thought for the year. We take a look at Philippians 3 and see that Apostle Paul wants us to forget what is behind (in his case, legalism) and press on to what is ahead (our identity in Jesus Christ), and see that God is calling us to lean forward into faith this coming year. What is your one word for the year?

Christmas Carols | AWAY IN A MANGER

Pastor Reid Olson of Crossroads Church of Greeley teaches on Christmas Carols for Advent season.

Screen Shot 2018-12-26 at 11.22.02 AM

We often sing songs because they are familiar to us. We sing words and listen to the music, but do we take the time to think about the meaning of the lyrics, or the theology represented? In this series, we break down the lyrics and pay attention to what God is trying to tell us today.

Away in a Manger, a nursery rhyme song from Martin Luther regarding the baby Jesus, is catchy, but it’s only about the baby. What if God were trying to tell you more about Himself than Jesus simply remaining a baby? Listen today with a heart that asks God the question, how better would you like me to follow you?

Christmas Carols | Oh Holy Night

Pastor Reid Olson of Crossroads Church of Greeley teaches on the lyrics of Oh Holy Night.

O-Holy-Night-Small

Not only does this Carol bring good warm feelings around the Christmas season, but it has deep theology as well. Where is your hope? Where are you placing your hope from God? Are you living circumstantially, for your own pleasures, or do you place your hope in something greater? God is our glory and hope, and our hope and faith come from him. Don’t let yourself get caught up in the materialism of the season, rather, let your heart find hope in God’s good glorious son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Taught Us To Forgive, How’s That Working Out For You?

Pastor Reid Olson of Crossroads Church of Greeley teaches on Matthew 6:14-15.

Jesus taught us to forgive others, so that the Heavenly Father can forgive us.

coffee spill

Jesus doesn’t ask us how we “feel” about this conditional statement in his sermon on the mount. In fact, most of the Bible doesn’t ask the reader how we feel about what God says. In light of that, how is forgiveness working out in your life? Are you one who holds a grudge? Are you letting the evil stored up in your heart spill out onto others, or are good things spilling out of your life? When God asks us to forgive others who offend us, think politics, think personal offenses, think mistakes made … He is asking our hearts to be in line with His heart, since God forgave us more than we could ever ask.

Let’s put it this way, maybe you only have to forgive others, as much as God as already forgiven you … that’s all. If we can figure out how to forgive, then our capacity to love will be even greater still. Let’s walk in the wholeness and grace of God’s forgiveness, which spills out onto others.

What Do You Have In Your House?

Reverend David Husby, Director of Covenant World Relief, teaches on 2 Kings 4:1-7 where Elisha asks the desperate widow, “What do you have in your house”?

The Lord is asking you and me the same question when it comes to loving our neighbors, “What do you have in your house, to help one another”? You and I have a part to play in helping the gospel of Jesus Christ advance in the world. We work with our neighbors to provide long lasting transformational work in underdeveloped communities. Covenant World Relief is a partner organization with Serve Globally, a wing of the Evangelical Covenant Denomination.
